From the Research
Tremors and Prednisone
- There is evidence to suggest that prednisone may cause tremors in some individuals 1.
- A case report describes a patient who developed resting tremor after being treated with methylprednisolone and prednisone for lethargic encephalitis, and the tremors improved with the treatment 1.
- However, other studies do not specifically mention prednisone as a cause of tremors, instead listing other medications such as amiodarone, SSRIs, and lithium as common causes of drug-induced tremor 2, 3.
- It is worth noting that the study on lethargic encephalitis 1 and the study on idiopathic generalized tremor syndrome in dogs 4 do not provide direct evidence of prednisone causing tremors in humans, but rather describe the use of prednisone in treating conditions that involve tremors.
- The study on bradycardia following oral corticosteroid use 5 does not mention tremors as a side effect of prednisone.
