From the FDA Drug Label

The dose of DYSPORT for the treatment of glabellar lines in adults is a total of 50 Units given intramuscularly in five equal aliquots of 10 Units each to achieve clinical effect (see Figure 1). To inject DYSPORT, advance the needle through the skin into the underlying muscle while applying finger pressure on the superior medial orbital rim. Inject patients with a total of 50 Units in five equally divided aliquots Using an appropriately sized needle, inject 10 Units of DYSPORT into each of five sites, two in each corrugator muscle, and one in the procerus muscle (see Figure 1).

The recommended injection sites for Botulinum toxin (Botox) on the face are:

  • Two sites in each corrugator muscle
  • One site in the procerus muscle These sites should be injected with 10 Units of DYSPORT each, for a total of 50 Units, to achieve clinical effect in the treatment of glabellar lines 1.

From the Research

Botox injections for facial rejuvenation are typically administered in several key areas, including the forehead, glabellar region, crow's feet, and other areas, as recommended by the most recent and highest quality study 2. The most common injection sites for Botulinum toxin (Botox) on the face include:

  • The forehead to reduce horizontal lines
  • Between the eyebrows (glabellar region) to address frown lines or "11 lines"
  • Around the eyes (crow's feet)
  • Around the mouth to treat smile lines and downturned corners
  • In the chin to reduce dimpling
  • In the jawline and neck to address muscle tension and bands The dosage typically ranges from 10-30 units for the forehead, 15-25 units for the glabellar region, and 10-15 units for crow's feet, though this varies based on individual muscle strength and desired results, as noted in 3 and 2. It's essential to have these injections performed by a qualified medical professional, such as a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or trained medical aesthetician, to ensure proper placement, appropriate dosing, and to minimize potential side effects like drooping eyelids or asymmetry, as emphasized in 2. Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to muscles, causing them to relax and reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, with treatment effects generally lasting 3-4 months before requiring maintenance injections, as discussed in 4 and 5.
