Diagnosis at Paglalarawan ng Kalagayan
Ang batang ito ay may probable mumps (bulutong o beke) batay sa clinical presentation ng unilateral o bilateral parotid gland swelling na tumatagal ng ≥2 araw, ngunit kailangan ng laboratory confirmation para sa definitive diagnosis. 1
Clinical Assessment

Diagnostic Recommendation
Laboratory confirmation ay essential dahil one-third ng clinically diagnosed mumps cases ay walang serologic evidence ng actual mumps infection. 3
Recommended tests:
- Mumps IgM antibody testing (serum) - para sa acute infection confirmation 1
- Parotid (Stensen) duct/buccal swab for PCR - most sensitive specimen source, dapat kunin within 5-9 days ng symptom onset 1
- Throat swab for viral culture or PCR - alternative specimen 1
Ang acute phase serum ay dapat kunin immediately, at convalescent serum after 5-10 days kung kinakailangan ng seroconversion confirmation. 1
Treatment Plan (Supportive Care Only)
Walang specific antiviral therapy para sa mumps - ang treatment ay purely symptomatic. 4
Medications (Within 300 pesos budget):
Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) Suspension 120mg/5mL
- Dose: 15 mg/kg/dose every 4-6 hours as needed for fever/pain
- Para sa 1 year 8 months (estimated 10-12 kg): 150-180 mg (6-7.5 mL) per dose
- Dispense: 60 mL bottle
- Duration: 5-7 days or until symptoms resolve
- Purpose: Para sa pain control at fever reduction 5
Adequate hydration - encourage oral fluids 5
Important Monitoring:
- Bantayan ang breathing difficulties - rare pero serious complication ay supraglottic edema na maaaring mag-cause ng airway obstruction 6
- Bantayan ang complications: meningitis, encephalitis (sa older children), orchitis (sa adolescent males) 2
- Isolation for 5 days mula sa onset ng parotid swelling para hindi kumalat ang infection 5
Medical Certificate
Diagnosis: Probable Mumps (Bulutong/Beke) - pending laboratory confirmation
Recommendation:
- Supportive care with paracetamol for fever and pain control
- Adequate hydration
- Home isolation for 5 days from onset of parotid swelling
- Return for follow-up if may breathing difficulty, severe headache, testicular pain (sa older males), o worsening symptoms
- Laboratory confirmation recommended (mumps IgM, parotid duct swab for PCR)
- NOT fit to return to school/daycare until after 5-day isolation period

Ito ay vaccine-preventable disease, at ang MMR vaccine ay approximately 88% effective. 5 Ang swelling ay self-limited at karaniwang gumagaling within 7-10 days. 1 Walang specific medicine para dito - ang treatment ay para lang sa symptoms (lagnat at sakit). Mahalaga ang isolation para hindi makahawa ng ibang bata, at bantayan ang anumang complications tulad ng difficulty breathing o severe headache na nangangailangan ng immediate medical attention.
