Nystatin Powder Application Frequency
Nystatin powder should be applied to affected areas 2 or 3 times daily. 1
FDA-Approved Dosing
The FDA drug label explicitly states that nystatin topical powder should be applied to candidal lesions two or three times daily until healing is complete. 1 This applies to both adults and pediatric patients, including neonates. 1
Specific Application Guidelines
For cutaneous candidiasis: Apply the powder 2-3 times daily directly to affected areas until resolution occurs. 1
For fungal foot infections caused by Candida: Dust the powder on the feet 2-3 times daily AND apply inside all footwear to prevent reinfection. 1
For very moist lesions: The topical dusting powder formulation is the preferred treatment option over creams or ointments. 1
Important Clinical Considerations
Storage requirements: Keep at controlled room temperature 15-30°C (59-86°F) and avoid excessive heat above 40°C (104°F). 1
Duration of therapy: Continue application until complete healing is achieved, not just until symptoms improve. 1
Treatment failure: If no improvement occurs after 7 days of appropriate use, confirm the diagnosis with culture and consider switching to an alternative antifungal agent such as fluconazole. 2
