SULT1A1 Inhibition by Xanax (Alprazolam)
- There is no direct evidence in the provided studies to suggest that Xanax (alprazolam) is a SULT1A1 inhibitor 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
- The studies focus on the substrate specificity, inhibition, and expression of SULT1A1, as well as the pharmacokinetics of alprazolam, but do not investigate the interaction between alprazolam and SULT1A1 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
- SULT1A1 has been shown to be inhibited by various compounds, including 17α-ethinylestradiol, epigallocatechin gallate, and mefenamic acid 2, 3, but alprazolam is not mentioned as an inhibitor in these studies.
- The pharmacokinetics of alprazolam are influenced by several factors, including coadministration of other drugs, such as cimetidine, fluoxetine, and propoxyphene, which can impair its clearance 5, but the effect of alprazolam on SULT1A1 activity is not investigated.
