Blood Pressure Goal for Arteriovenous (AV) Malformation Embolization
- The goal of AV malformation embolization is to obliterate the AV shunt, but there is no specific blood pressure goal mentioned in the studies 1, 2, 3, 4.
- However, one study found that the mean feeder artery pressure (FP) was 49 mm Hg, and the FP in ruptured AVMs was 7 mm Hg higher than in unruptured ones (53.8 mm Hg vs. 47.1 mm Hg, p = 0.032) 1.
- Another study analyzed the hemodynamic changes caused by AV malformation and AV malformation embolization, but did not provide a specific blood pressure goal for embolization 5.
- The studies suggest that the hemodynamic changes of AV malformation and embolization follow a linear relationship, but the impact of embolization on hemodynamics in large AVMs follows a nonlinear relationship 5.
- The choice of lesion access and embolic agents is based on the individual anatomy and flow, and a multidisciplinary management is essential for the diagnosis and therapeutic intervention of AVMs 2, 3, 4.
