From the Research

The oral suspension of Concerta is not available, but an alternative extended-release oral suspension called Quillivant XR (methylphenidate hydrochloride extended-release oral suspension) is available for the treatment of ADHD, as studied in 3 and reviewed in 4. The most recent and highest quality study on this topic is 3, which investigated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Quillivant XR in children with ADHD. Some key points to consider when prescribing an oral suspension for ADHD include:

  • The need for a consistent medication level throughout the day
  • The importance of choosing a formulation that is suitable for the patient's needs and preferences
  • The potential advantages of an extended-release oral suspension, such as Quillivant XR, which can provide comparable efficacy and duration of effect to other extended-release formulations, as discussed in 4. It is essential to discuss the available options with a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate alternative to Concerta tablets for patients who require a liquid ADHD medication. In terms of the treatment of ADHD, methylphenidate hydrochloride is a commonly used medication, and its extended-release formulations, such as Quillivant XR, have been shown to be effective in managing symptoms of ADHD, as demonstrated in 3 and reviewed in 4.
