Storage Duration for Repatha (Evolocumab) at Room Temperature
Repatha can be safely stored at room temperature (68°F to 77°F or 20°C to 25°C) for up to 30 days after removal from refrigeration, after which it must be discarded. 1
Primary Storage Requirements
- Store Repatha in the refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) in the original carton to protect from light until use. 1
- Never freeze Repatha, as freezing can compromise the medication's integrity. 1
- Do not shake Repatha at any time during storage or handling. 1
Room Temperature Storage Guidelines
- If removed from refrigeration, Repatha must be used within 30 days when kept at room temperature between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C). 1
- Any Repatha that has been stored at room temperature for more than 30 days must be thrown away and cannot be returned to the refrigerator for continued use. 1
- Keep the medication in its original carton during room temperature storage to maintain light protection. 1
Critical Temperature Restrictions
- Do not store Repatha in temperatures above 77°F (25°C), such as in a vehicle's glove box or trunk, as excessive heat will degrade the medication. 1
- For the on-body infusor formulation specifically, allow at least 45 minutes at room temperature before injection after removing from the refrigerator. 1
- The 30-day room temperature limit applies to all Repatha formulations including prefilled autoinjectors, prefilled syringes, and on-body infusors with prefilled cartridges. 1
Pre-Administration Checks
- Always verify the medication is not expired before each injection by checking the label. 1
- Inspect for any visible changes in appearance before use—do not administer if the solution appears cloudy, discolored, or contains particles. 1
- If using multiple injections for the 420 mg dose (three separate 140 mg injections), complete all injections within 30 minutes. 1
Transportation Considerations
- Use insulated bags or cooler packs when transporting Repatha in hot or cold weather to maintain the 2°C to 8°C temperature range. 2
- Minimize time outside refrigeration during transport to prevent temperature excursions. 2
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
- Do not attempt to re-refrigerate Repatha after it has been at room temperature, even if the 30-day limit has not been reached—once the room temperature storage period begins, the 30-day countdown cannot be reset. 1
- Do not remove the medication from its carton until ready to use, as light exposure can affect stability. 1
- Avoid storing near heat sources, in direct sunlight, or in areas with temperature fluctuations. 1
