What are the side effects of Buspirone?

Buspirone's side effects are generally mild and temporary.

Common Side Effects

• The most common side effects, occurring in about 10% of patients, are nausea, abdominal pain, headache, and drowsiness 1.

Less Common Side Effects

• At higher doses, above 30 mg/day, other side effects may occur, such as confusion, increased tremor, and tachycardia 1.

Dosage and Side Effects

• The usual dosage of buspirone is 15-30 mg/day, and side effects are rare at doses below 15 mg/day 1.
• Buspirone may take 2 to 4 weeks to become effective and is useful only in patients with mild to moderate agitation 1.
